Curt Weldon Coming to Minnesota
I stumbled across this a few hours ago and could not believe my eyes. Here's the story: Rep. Curt Weldon (PA-07) is coming to Minnesota to fundraise for Rep. Jim Ramstad.
From today's "GOP Newsline" e-mail:
Congressman Weldon's issues are many and varied, and a very big hat tip to Swing State Project for their research on this guy. To begin with, a brand-new post from SSP points out that Weldon has some interesting campaign expenditures. Namely, he's been spending campaign money on landscaping as well as some highfalutin hotels and restauraunts - some in other countries. If that's not an improper and illegal use of campaign funds, I don't know what is. So, Weldon appears to be among the legion of corrupt Republican officials in Washington, but that's nothing too special these days. Next up is a good old fashioned conspiracy theory: Weldon and his campaign believe that the CIA is out to get him. He believes that authoring "Countdown to Terror", the very book that the MNGOP's e-mail mentions, put him in the CIA's sights last year. Now, he believes that the CIA is supporting his excellent Democratic opponent, Joe Sestak, because a former analyst contributed to Sestak's campaign. That's a smoking gun if there ever was one. Perhaps the craziest thing of all, though, is that Weldon participated in the "coronation" of the Rev. Sun Myung Moon "as humanity's Savior, Messiah, Returning Lord and True Parent" in 2004. No, seriously. You can read about it, if you have the fortitude, but this is some seriously freaky stuff. Weldon's office went on to lie about his attendance. And yeah, some Democrats were there too, and that's no less wrong, and I don't know why they're still in office.
The three impressive displays above aren't all, though. If you still aren't convinced that this is a messed-up individual, what's coming next is worst. The worst is that Weldon went after his opponent's family for some temporary living arrangements because Sestak's five year-old daughter had terminal cancer. Weldon went so far as to tell Sestak, a retired Navy admiral, where he should have sent his daughter for treatment. If that doesn't disgust you, nothing will.
This, ladies and gentlemen, this is what Rep. Ramstad and the Republican Party are bringing to Hamel, Minnesota tomorrow. A corrupt, conspiracy-theorizing, Messiah-crowning, dishonest Pennsylvania congressman. A man who told a political opponent he was wrong in where he chose to bring his daughter to save her life. A man who is unfit to serve as dogcatcher, much less in Congress. A man who will lose to Joe Sestak in November with a little help from a lot of good people. A man who cannot be allowed to continue holding an honorable office that he does not deserve.
Do you support Weldon's statements, beliefs, and actions, Rep. Ramstad? Do you support them, Mr. Carey? By inviting Weldon to Minnesota and promoting his appearance, Ramstad and the GOP have implied that they do. Call the Minnesota GOP today at 651-222-0022. Ask them. Call Rep. Ramstad's campaign at 952-738-9100. Ask him. Let them know that Curt Weldon is un-Minnesotan. Support Wendy Wilde in MN-03 and Joe Sestak in PA-07. This stuff is as wrong as wrong can be, and we cannot stand idly by.

Dude, you need to buy a clue. Weldon questioned why his opponent Sestak would leave his home in Virginia and leave his sick daughter behind to run for congress more than a hundred miles away in Pennyslvania where he hasn't lived in close to 30 years. Is the guy that power hungry he has to leave his daughter with a brain tumor behind like that?
To top it off Weldon noted in the Washington Post the next day that he was misquoted in the initial story. He even called Sestak the day the story ran to apologize. But Sestak saw this as a great fundraising opportunity and splayed it all over the news and issued fundraising pitches basedo nthe misquote. If THAT doesn't disgust you, noting will.
As far as the campaign spending at restaurants. Where else would you want someone to host a fundraiser? Or an election ight party? Give me a break.
